You don't need to become a blogger. But the right content can generate leads on autopilot for years.
Most tradesmen roll their eyes at the idea of 'content marketing'. They picture themselves writing daily blog posts about plumbing tips nobody reads. But content marketing for service businesses doesn't have to be that. Done right, a handful of strategic pages can generate organic leads for years without any ongoing effort.
Focus on creating pages that answer the questions your customers actually ask. 'How much does a new boiler cost in 2026?', 'Do I need planning permission for a loft conversion?', 'How often should I have my drains cleaned?' These are real search queries with genuine commercial intent. A well-written page answering each question can rank on Google and bring in leads month after month.
Location pages are another high-impact content type. Create a dedicated page for every town or city you serve, optimised with local keywords and details about the work you've done in that area. 'Electrician in Stockport' or 'Kitchen Fitter in Altrincham' - these pages target specific local searches that your homepage simply can't.
Don't overlook visual content. Before-and-after photos, short video walkthroughs of completed projects, and time-lapse videos of jobs in progress perform extremely well on social media and can be embedded on your website. This type of content builds trust far more effectively than written testimonials alone.
