Search Console shows you exactly how Google sees your website. Here's how to use it to find quick wins.
Google Search Console is a free tool that every website owner should be using. It shows you which search queries your site appears for, how many clicks you receive, and any technical issues that might be holding back your rankings. Yet the majority of small business owners have never logged into it.
The Performance Report is where the gold is. It shows you every search query that triggered your site in Google results, along with your average position, click-through rate, and total clicks. Look for queries where you rank in positions 5-15 with decent impressions but low clicks - these are your quickest SEO wins.
For those 'almost ranking' queries, visit the page that currently ranks and improve it. Add the exact query as a heading, expand the content to better answer the searcher's intent, and strengthen internal links to that page. Often, these small improvements can push you from page 2 to page 1, where 90% of all clicks happen.
The Coverage Report shows you any technical issues Google has found when crawling your site. Errors like 404 pages, redirect loops, and pages excluded from the index can silently undermine your SEO. Check this report monthly and fix any errors promptly. A technically clean website has a significant ranking advantage over sites with unresolved crawl issues.
